It's A Bug's World

It's A Bug's World returns to Shortstown, transforming the Village Hall into an animal lover's paradise. The event, provided by Black Cricket Animal Services, is an informal, educational and interesting exhibition suitable for the whole family with static and interactive animal displays. Come along and meet a wide variety of guests from around the world including snakes, lizards, millipedes, cockroaches, tarantulas and lots of other beautiful creatures!

Just a few of the items and activities being held at the event:

IHS Anglia (International Herpetological Society Anglia) talk ~ Keeping and Handling DWAs and Venomous Animals. Delivered by Ross Deacon. For people 18 years old and over and are interested in these animals, interested in keeping these animals or already own and keep these animals at home. There will be two talks during the event (in the morning and in the afternoon). The talk will provide information and demonstration (with snakes and equipment) of basic to advance handling and husbandry, to policies, procedures and council licencing. Places are limited for this hour and 30 minute long talk. Pre-booking is required. £7 per per person* includes entry into the It's A Bug's World event. To be held in the Education Room;

Black Cricket Kids Club will be hosting an interactive animal handling session. Suitable for children aged 5 - 13 who would like to meet a range of bugs and find out more about them. All participants will be given a goodie bag to take home. Places are limited for this hour long experience. Pre-booking is required. £6 per child (discount available for registered members of BCKC)* includes a goodie bag (one parent / carers per family can attend the session, however if you wish to attend the It's A Bug's World event before or afterwards, admission fees apply). To be held in the Education Room;

Static and interactive displays of invertebrates from around the world;

Interactive displays and animal handling of animals from around the world;

Animal keepers and owners available to provide information about how to care for a range of animals properly at home;

Invertebrates for sale for the beginner and the more experienced;

Animal equipment, treats and other animal goods available;

Gifts and goodies; 

Children's entertainment;

IHS Anglia information - the local reptile and amphibian group;

Little Lizard Rescue information - the local rescue;

Display information about a wide range of animals from around the world;

Children's creative corner;


*** In 2018 we shall be welcoming Custom Aquaria and Cambridgeshire Nutrition UK for the first time ***

Admission Costs 

It's A Bug's World event £1.50 per person (over 18s). Pay on the door only.

IHS Anglia talk - DWA / Venomous Keeping and Handling £7 per person (over 18s only). Includes entry into the It's A Bug's World event. Pre-book in advance.

Black Cricket Kids Club session £6 per child (children between 5 years and 13 years old). Pre-book in advance. **£5 entry if your child is a registered member of the Black Cricket Kids Club


Sunday 6th May. 10.00-16.00

It's A Bug's World is organised by volunteers for the enjoyment of the local communities. Proceeds will go to animal rescue.

Please be aware that parking at the Village Hall is extremely limited. There are two free car parks in the New Cardington development (5-10 minute walk away). Should you park in residential areas, please ensure that you park sensibly and respectfully.
